“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Moses had died and the Lord was speaking to the new leader of Israel, Joshua. The Israelites were preparing to cross the river Jordan into the land God had promised to them. To those without spiritual sight, this would seem like a daunting task, but God has told Joshua to neither be discouraged, nor afraid. Why, with such a large task at hand, would Joshua and the Israelites not be discouraged or afraid? Because the Lord God of Israel told them He would be with them wherever they went, that’s why. God had protected them in the past; therefore, they knew His promises could be relied upon.
Is God real to you? He can be. The more we rely on and trust Him to provide for and sustain us the more real He will become. There is no record in all of scripture where God has failed to fulfill even one of His promises to His people. That is the kind of track record that can be relied upon with confidence. He is with us wherever we go. He is in us in the form of His Holy Spirit. What more could we ask for? We truly have nothing whatsoever to fear in this life.
