“And if you
call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work,
conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that
you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your
aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious
blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter
1:17-19)
We
are called to be holy even as God is holy.
To be holy is to be set apart.
This holiness, according to the Asbury Bible Commentary, is both “spiritual and social”. It is to be seen in our own “personal integrity before God and in our
public responsibility”. God’s grace
or undeserved favor, is supposed to change us.
Once we realize the depth of God’s love for us, we should desire to live
for Him. Our conversion should cause in
us a compulsion to please the Lord by living according to the standard set
forth in scripture. The standard is only
difficult to follow if we continually strain at the leash, desiring to go our
own way. If we submit to His wisdom and
authority we will grow spiritually and be of great value to the kingdom. It’s when we live for ourselves, ignoring the
standard set before us, that the enemy gains a small measure of victory. Our redemption was bought through Christ’s
death on the cross. When we live for
Christ we must understand that someday we will be judged for the things we have
done for the Lord while under His umbrella of grace. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing.
