“In him we
have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with
the riches of God’s grace.” (Ephesians 1:7)
Let’s define our terms here. To redeem is to set free or rescue; to
restore the honor, worth, or reputation of.
Isn’t that exactly what Christ has done?
By His death He set us free. He
rescued us from the punishment due our sin.
By doing this Christ also restored our relationship with God by bridging
the gap caused by that sin. We are
forgiven once for all time. Our sins have been placed as far as the east is
from the west (Psalm 103:12) and shall never be held against us again.
What
of God’s grace; His undeserved favor?
Because our sin has caused a separation from God, we deserve nothing
from Him for we are not a part of His family.
He has offered all men His favor and all the riches that come with it in
exchange for our allegiance. In light of
this great exchange it becomes incumbent upon us to do exactly as Christ had
instructed so many in the NT; “go and sin no more”.
Let us not trample God’s undeserved favor under foot, but rather, live lives that honor Him and bring Him glory. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
