“Then he
took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink
from it, all of you. This is my blood of
the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’” (Matthew
26:27-28)
The
Last Supper; we commemorate this event every time we take communion. The bread is His body, the wine His
blood. This event is refers to as a
sacrament; a rite instituted by Jesus to do in remembrance of Him (Luke
22:19). It matters not what elements are
used, for they are nothing more than symbols.
The main point is that we remember Christ in this manner. Regardless of how frequently we do it we must
insure that we do it from the heart and not out of obligation.
God judges us by our heart’s
motivation and nothing else, because as Jesus says in the Gospels, “out of the
abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”.
What we think, say and do in this life comes from the motivation that
lies within our hearts. From this day forward, when you take part in
communion, truly reflect on the seriousness of the moment and what historical
events are being represented. It’s a time to remember once again all that God
has done for you and for the blood Christ shed to save your soul. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
